Hi there! I'm Kaitlyn Edington, and I am an elementary school art teacher and artist. I have been teaching for over 15 years, but have been drawing for as long as I can remember. I began my career path as an artist and teacher after graduating from Kent State University in 2008, when I packed my bags from my home in Pittsburgh, PA and headed to sunny South Carolina where I taught in Title one schools, suburban schools of over 1200 students, and even a Creative Arts Magnet School. Now, 10 years later, my husband and I recently decided it was time to live closer to family, so we recently moved back to the Pittsburgh area, and I am now teaching for my Alma Mater.
Over the course of my teaching career, I have had the opportunity to teach visual art to hundreds of children from all socioeconomic statuses, backgrounds, and abilities. I began my teaching career in a rural, Title 1 school in South Carolina, and am now currently teaching at a Creative Arts magnet school that is top ranked in the state. I am incredibly passionate about modeling my own artistic abilities as a way to inspire and instill a love for the visual arts in each one of my students. I consider myself beyond lucky that I get to live out my passion every single day at my job. A few years into my teaching career, I began painting small murals around my school and school district, and in 2010 was presented with the incredible opportunity to paint over 30 murals in a brand new high school in Walterboro, SC. It was at this time that my college roommate and fellow art student moved to Charleston to help me tackle this huge mural project, thus forming our mural business. All photos of murals posted have been in collaboration with Sophie Nemethy as "The Color Chemists". A full catalogue of our work can be viewed here. In addition to teaching and painting murals, I also paint custom animal portraits, and illustrations inspired by my rescue lab, Maddie. Thanks for stopping by! |
